Job Summary

The research group is looking for a research assistant who would assist on the electronic Clinical Effort Against Secondhand Smoke (eCEASE) national study funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This study seeks to improve the quality of tobacco control service delivery in pediatric practices and help parents quit smoking.

The RA will be based in the CHOP primary care clinics. The RA will review Electronic Medical Records to identify and approach all eligible parents, ask if they agree to enroll in the study, obtain informed consent, administer surveys using REDCap, which will take approximately 15 minutes.  Recruitment will likely last about 12-16 consecutive weeks.  Exact schedule of the RA will depend on the hours of the practice. The individual will be required to complete human subjects training and will also participate in periodic research team meetings.


Prior experience in data collection and conducting surveys is preferred, but not required.  The ideal person for this position should be comfortable with approaching and recruiting families into research studies. Customer service experience is a plus. Recent graduates and current students of psychology, nursing, public health and pre-med degrees are strongly encouraged to apply. The candidate must be detail-oriented with strong communication and organizational skills and comfortable with working independently.

  • Document and Report adverse events
  • Maintain study source documents
  • Complete case report forms (paper and electronic data capture)

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Associates Degree or active enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree Program


Required Experience:  One (1) year of relevant clinical research experience.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in related field

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Familiarity with IRB and human subject protection.
