Job Summary

The Electrophysiology Nurse is actively involved in the Electrophysiology program and patient activities.  This Registered Nurse establishes and promotes a liaison relationship between the Electrophysiology team members and the patient’s families.  He/she provides device information, patient follow-up plans, and education related to cardiac devices to patients, families, school personnel, and other health care providers, and nursing staff.  Also, he/she is a liaison with cardiac device manufacturers for troubleshooting, programming, and tracking advisories and recalls as needed

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor, interpret and evaluate cardiac remote monitoring transmissions.  Coordinate and co-manage the cardiac device remote monitoring program.
  • Coordinate follow-up care and services for cardiac device patients to ensure there are no gaps in patient care.  Identify and triage clinical needs, patient care outcomes, and evaluates progress through documentation and communication.
  • Maintain cardiac device databases (Optima/PaceArt) and participate in electrophysiology research projects.
  • Act as liaison between the electrophysiology team, cardiac device manufacturers, and patient families. 
  • Provide education to families after device implantation in preparation for discharge and on-going education.
  • Interrogate and troubleshoot pacemakers and ICDs in the inpatient and outpatient settings.  Maintain competency through certification as a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) and its requirements.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations


Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Nursing Diploma


Required Experience: Minimum of two (2) years RN experience in pediatrics or critical care.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Education: BSN

Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: CCDS (Certified Cardiac Device Specialist) from International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE)

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Specific technical knowledge related to arrhythmia management
  • Ability to provide basic nursing care to children and families in the electrophysiology program
  • Critical analysis and problem-solving skill
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively through consultation with other health care team providers
