Job Summary

  1. He/She will advise the group’s researchers about design and construction of biomedical device prototypes and lead the their design and constructions. She/He will manufacture parts and/assemblies in the lab’s workshop and/or using external sources. He/She will manage the manufacturing of outsourced parts. She/He will guide and manage the work of other engineers and/or trainees.
  2. He/She will maintain the prototype workshop.
  3. The candidate must have experience in designing and constructing biomedical device in particular catheter type devices. Preferred candidate will have a Master degree in mechanical / industrial engineering.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the design and constructions of prototypes of devices and systems for the ongoing research.
  • Manage the in-house and outsourced manufacturing of parts.
  • Advice the group researchers about design and construction of prototypes.
  • Maintain a prototype workshop.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Graduation from a Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET),Electronic Engineering Technologist (EET) Training Program or Associates Degree in related field

 

Required Experience: At least eight (8) years’ experience working as a Biomedical Technologist in a healthcare setting.

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • Experience in R&D environment.
  • Experience with medical catheters.
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical systems.
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing using lathe, milling machine, etc.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with non-engineers.

Knowledge of CAD/CAM.

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Strong communications, organization and teamwork skills.
  • Biomechanics Research experience a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to interact effectively with professionals of same rank or higher from a variety of disciplines.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Candidates must have experience in development of medical devices; experience gained while a student is acceptable. The successful candidate will have excellent English language oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and time management capabilities, and will value research integrity and collaborative research.
