Job Summary

A Postdoctoral Fellow is needed to join a dynamic group of investigators within the Center for Spatial and Functional Genomics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, an operation which spans both dry and wet lab approaches in order to elucidate the genetic basis of complex traits. The successful candidate will be dedicated and motivated, have creative thinking and be a driver of her/his research. These studies will build on the seminal work that has emerged from genome wide association studies, and will involve the analysis of multi-omics datasets such as ATAC-seq, chromatin conformation capture, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, microarray and genome wide association studies (GWAS), either generated within the center, affiliated laboratories or from the public domain.

Preferred applicant will have:

PhD in bioinformatics, mathematics, physics or a computational discipline required. Two-three years working experience with genomic/genetic data analyses desirable, especially with respect to the field of GWAS and functional genomics. Excellent communication, organizational and bioinformatic skills are a must, together with previous experience in genomics.

The successful candidate will be motivated with a growth mindset and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. The candidate will build on their grant/abstract/manuscript writing abilities and their oral presentation/communication skills. It is expected that this individual will work closely with the Dr. Struan F.A. Grant and effectively collaborate with our existing bioinformatics team and wet-lab personnel.

Proficiency with Unix/Linux, R and either Perl or Python are required. Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters (in particular SGE) and familiarity with version control are highly desirable. We encourage applications from candidates with a genuine interest in human genetics and common complex disease.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To lead specific projects agreed upon with the P.I.

2. Perform bioinformatic analyses and maintain appropriate logs.

3. Interpret resulting data.

4. Submit findings in peer-review journals and present at national and international meetings.

  • A terminal degree PhD, MD, DVM, etc.
  • According to the CMS (Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services) a copy of diploma or transcript is required as proof of academic achievement for all non-laboratory personnel performing non-waived POC testing
