Job Summary

Provide professional mental health treatment to patients and families, utilizing recognized best practice interventions. These core services include assessment of psychosocial functioning and capacities, ability to complete a mental status examination, ability to diagnose mental health condition and provide treatment recommendations. Provide a variety of therapies to address mental health diagnosis that effect children and their families. Collaborate with many disciplines, programs, departments, and organizations in the accomplishment of these duties. Must be able to provide supervision to developing mental health providers in the treatment of children and their families, including training and direct supervision of Fellows.  Also provide clinical care to the Behavioral Health Integrated Program when appropriate on an as needed basis.

The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (DCAPBS) at CHOP is seeking a Licensed Clinical Social Worker to join our hospital based consultation-liaison program (Behavioral Health Integrated Program, BHIP). The position is full-time, providing opportunities for clinical work and teaching/training.

The BHIP program provides consultative and intervention services across the entire range of medical inpatient units and programs at CHOP. The psychologist will work with a multi-disciplinary team of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists and Pediatric Psychologists, and provide clinical services to children and families currently receiving medical care in our 541 bed hospital. The team provides services to a variety of medical units, including general pediatrics, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Adolescent Medicine, and Critical Care Units. The position will preferentially support delivery of evidence-based interventions and support program development within the Adolescent Medicine Inpatient Unit as part of a multidisciplinary team. Typical consult questions include evaluations for depression, anxiety, adherence, coping with illness, and eating disorders. The LCSW will also participate in teaching and training activities through our ACSW accredited continued education programs.

Training in clinical social work is required. Training and certification, with skills in empirically supported interventions with a focus in child, adolescent and family care are preferred.  Licensure as a clinical social worker in the State of Pennsylvania is required prior to beginning the position.

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

LCSW- Licensed C. Social Worker (PA)

Required Education and Experience

  • Masters degree from a Council of Social Worl Education (CWSE) accredited institution. 
  • Prior clinical social work experience required.
  • Must be eligible for credentialling with CHOP payers.

 

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • Experience in a hospital, health organization or mental health agency setting preferred.

• Knowledge of therapy and psychological assessment techniques with children and families.
• Knowledge of behavioral methodology and principles.

• Ability to learn public health policy and health care legislation and respond to it as a family advocate.
