Job Summary

The Senior Manager is a highly experienced, advanced leader with primary team leadership, oversight, and accountability.  This professional demonstrates the ability to autonomously lead a cross-functional team from a wide breadth of disciplines and areas of content expertise within CHOP's Center for Healthcare Quality and Analytics and the Office of Preparedness, Prevention and Response.   In addition, this leader has exceptional interpersonal skills to support integration of this team's work both across the King of Prussia campus but also the enterprise as a whole.   This professional oversees a broad portfolio of supported efforts, inclusive of locally implementing, system-wide strategic priorities, local initiatives, and partnering directly with executives, operations, physician and nursing leaders in design and execution of projects.

The Sr. Manager shares accountability for the successful delivery of outcomes across the portfolio of work. This professional will report directly to the ACMO of the Middleman Family Pavilion (King of Prussia Hospital).  There will be matrixed connections with enterprise leaders to assure alignment with enterprise priorities and initiatives. Specifically, enterprise leaders with matrix reporting serve as technical experts to insure competency and alignment with industry and regulatory standards as well as to support the professional growth and development of team members.  In addition, the Sr. Manager will partner closely with enterprise leaders to insure high reliability of represented system departments and enterprise policies and procedures. 

The Senior Manager has operational, administrative and fiscal responsibility for their team, including resource justification that aligns with industry standards for represented roles and departments, assignments and cultivating and supporting a high performing team.  Additionally, this position is expected to carry program/ portfolio assignments for a portion of time, as necessary to support successful operations of the department portfolio. This role fosters a strong partnership with leadership teams of other key service partners as well as other key stakeholders, departments and teams across the enterprise. 

Job Responsibilities

Effort – The expectation is that time spent on projects will be:

  • 70% Strategic (Planning and guidance, overseeing team)
  • 10% Tactical (Performing and owning technical aspects of a project)
  • 20% Transferring Knowledge (Coaching, mentoring and teaching)

Strategic:

  • Partners with KOP executive and enterprise leadership in establishing strategy and direction for teams and portfolio with direct focus on translating strategy into implementation
  • Serves as a liaison between KOP leadership, enterprise leadership and team members, by maintaining ongoing and direct communication related to operational strategies, challenges and performance
  • Oversees and manages a cross-functional team ensuring the design and operationalization of robust implementation strategies to ensure successful outcomes
  • Fosters a culture of innovation and curiosity supported by a data driven approach to problems
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in the face of ongoing changes and growth
  • Builds strong alliances and maintains open dialogue with enterprise leaders to ensure local decision-making aligns with enterprise priorities and regulatory and/or industry standards.
  • Integrates work across teams and within the hospital to ensure optimal connectedness, efficiency and fluidity across areas
  • Manages the team to ensure efficient and effective operations of the:
  • Recruiting, coaching, development and supervision of competent team members, efficient systems and a satisfied workforce as the outcome
  • Engages in strategic and operational planning for improvement, alignment with hospital growth and budget needs
  • Oversight of operational systems and activities to assure that the department's activities are consistent with customer needs and align w enterprise priorities and regulatory standards.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education:

  • Master's Degree

 

Required Experience:

  • At least ten (10) years Prior experience in Quality Improvement and/or Patient Safety Systems Preparedness such Infection Prevention and/or Emergency Management
  • At least three (3) years Demonstrated leadership experience managing cross-functional work teams with direct reporting relationships

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Preferred Cert/Lic:

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) upon hire OR
  • Certified Manager of Quality (CQM) upon hire OR
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (LSSGB) upon hire OR
  • Six Sigma Black Belt (CSSBB) upon hire

Additional Technical Requirements

  • Prior experience demonstrating leadership skills to achieve expected results.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Knowledge of organizational dynamics, change theory, reliability and safety science, improvement methods and tools, measurement and statistical process control
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when necessary
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Flexibility and adaptability to an evolving workplace
