Job Summary

In partnership with Ambulatory leadership, provide strategic leadership to nursing staff in all areas of responsibility in order to assure delivery of safe, efficient, cost effective, nursing care to patient/families.  The nurse manager will work collaboratively with a second nurse manager, Ambulatory Nursing, to provide leadership for the Care Network, Primary Care, Specialty Care Centers and Specialty Care Practices in both PA and NJ.

Job Responsibilities
  • Establishes and maintains effective collaborative partnerships with ambulatory leadership (directors, managers, medical directors) with the goal of improving patient care and safety.
  • Establishes a strategy that focuses on the changing need of clinical practice in the ambulatory network. Aligns that strategy with the nursing department and overall hospital strategy.
  • Partners with the ambulatory medical leadership to identify and review patient safety issues. Is accountable for the RCA or ACA process in response to a safety event. 
  • On an ongoing basis is present in the ambulatory environment, including rounding in all ambulatory sites. Communicates any observations or findings from those rounding experiences to the site manager/director for that area.
  • Provides leadership for the ambulatory nursing leadership group (Lead Nurses). Communicates any updates and clinical practice changes in a timely fashion. Leads monthly ambulatory nursing (Lead Nurse) meetings.
  • Establishes an environment of shared decision making. Sets a standard for nursing and inter-professional shared governance.
  • Sets a standard for the orientation process for all clinical staff in the ambulatory network. Partners with the practice managers and directors on retention strategies.
  • Participates/collaborates to identify annual clinical area based quality improvement initiatives that result in a measurable impact on quality, cost and resource utilization 
  • Leads interdisciplinary clinical initiatives to reach optimal clinical outcomes while preserving and/or improving quality and decreasing cost.
  • Creates an environment which is blame free, a spirit of appreciative inquiry. Promotes team building and colleague development
  • Fosters an environment of professional development for all staff in the network. 
  • Represents Ambulatory Nursing Leadership at a variety of venues including: Nurse Manager meeting, DON/NM meeting, and Patient safety Committee, Unit Leader Partners.
Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
RN - PA & NJ (Current License)
Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Graduation from an ACEN and/or CCNE accredited school of nursing or college. Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business, or Management required. Either undergraduate or graduate degree must be in nursing.

 

Required Experience:

  • Three – five years of progressive leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in human relations, human & material resource management.
  • Evidence of ability to provide exceptional clinical and administrative nursing leadership.

  • Ability to be present in the ambulatory setting for a minimum of 60% of required work hours.  Additional 40% of time will be dedicated to meetings and required follow-up.

Computer Competency

  • Basic use of a computer (mouse, keyboard, printer, USB ports).
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and Skype).

  • Basic use of patient facing technology. (e.g. IV pumps, point of care devices, CR monitors).
  • Navigation and use of clinical communication systems.

  • Navigation of the electronic health record system.
  • Ability to locate and review specific patient data in various clinical information systems.

  • Understands policies and procedures, confidentiality, security, and privacy regulations regarding the use of clinical information systems.
  • Ability to collect clinical data using quality improvement tools.
